Institute of Fundraising warns of spoof email in its name

Howard Lake | 18 March 2005 | News

The Institute is warning its members of the existence of an email message circulating in the name of ‘John Adam’, who claims to be the Director of the Institute.

The Institute uses the front page of its website to confirm that “this email is fraudulent and there is no association between the Institute and this correspondence.” It advises recipients to ignore the contents of the message and delete it.

Sadly such fraudulent or spoofed emails are not uncommon. There is very little organisations can do about them except warn likely recipients and encourage them not to act on them or add their domain name to any spam filter system they have.
