Registration has opened for the National Convention 2005, the 16th annual convention by the Institute of Fundraising, and the largest gathering of fundraisers outside the USA.

The convention moves to London after many years in Birmingham, and will be held at the Hilton London Metropole. The 168 workshop sessions will be spread across the three days of the event, with each day beginning with a plenary that the Institute says will deliver “a fresh and sometimes controversial perspective on the world of fundraising.” There will also be a series of minim-conferences or ‘Focus On’ sessions which will allow delegates to spend an entire morning or afternoon looking at a particular issue in depth.

The Institute has made much of the fact that the move to London means that more fundraisers can attend and that they will have to pay less than last year since the pricing is non-residential. A member day rate is £189 and a three day pass is £467. This, says the Institute, is a reduction of 30% on 2004’s prices.

The convention includes social events including the Opening Reception and Jazz Club, the convention party ‘Funky Fundraisers’, and the Awards and Dinner on the last night.

For the first time the Institute has created a microsite for the convention giving full details of its contents. Also for the first time it held a launch event for the convention. At midday today Chief Executive Lindsay Boswell and Convention Chair Julius Wolff-Ingham, Head of Marketing and Fundraising at The Salvation Army, made presentations, which were followed by wine and canapés.
