First Monday, the monthly fundraising email newsletter from DRF Group Ltd, today offers advice for smaller charities on major gift fundraising, including summing it all up in under 10 words.

The latest issue of First Monday welcomes the growth of major gift fundraising in the UK, referring to a recent survey of heads of fundraising that suggests they think “growth in funds from this source will be above 50% in 2005”.

DRF Group’s Manager Chris Stoddard asks how can smaller, less well-resourced charities do to generate major gifts. In response he offers “First Monday’s ‘instant guide’ – All you need to know about major gifts fundraising in less than 10 words.” And those words are: “Ask in person. Ask for a specific amount.”

In the newsletter he goes on to explain how to put this approach into action. He concludes by sayinig “as I’ve said many times in the pages of First Monday, major gifts is
potentially the area of greatest unexploited growth in UK fundraising. I hope these few words will help you to begin exploiting it.”

You can subscribe to First Monday at no charge, and it is published, as its name suggests, on the first Monday of each month. As well as a main feature item it includes other fundraising tips, plus details of DRF Group’s fundraising workshops and publications.
