Howard Lake | 31 December 2004 | News

The Times reports that more than half of the companies in the FTSE 100 have donated money or services to the South Asian emergency relief effort.

In-kind help offered includes Shell’s provision of free fuel to rescue operations in Thailand, Cairn Energy’s provision of an India-based helicopter, and Lloyds TSB’s waiving of transaction charges for people transferring money to affected areas.

Some companies such as Pearson and Legal & General are offering to match their employees’ donations to the emergency funds.
