Shining star on the top of a Christmas tree

If your voluntary group can muster a decent group of carol singers you could secure a slot to perform and hold a collection under the Christmas tree in London’s Trafalgar Square next month.

The Greater London Authority is inviting groups of carol singers to perform in Trafalgar Square in the run-up to Christmas and to raise funds for their charity or voluntary organisation.

Groups perform throughout December under the tree, which is a gift to Londoners from the people of Norway.

The free programme of carol singing runs from 4 December to Christmas Eve and is open to all Londoners and visitors to London.

The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, said: “The Trafalgar Square Christmas tree is a gift every year from the people of Norway and creates one of the most magical and iconic images of this city. Londoners who sing around the Christmas tree are contributing to a great tradition, as well as being able to raise money for good causes.”

Groups wishing to take part in the carol singing programme should contact the Squares Management team at the Greater London Authority on 020 7983 4234/4813.

Groups who have already booked for a one- or two-hour slot include Amnesty International, Sense, Darrent Valley Choir, Deptford Methodist Church, Ealing Youth Choir, Sutton and Merton Polio Fellowship, Simon Community, and Epilepsy Action.
