14% of home movers request information on charities, says Royal Mail

Research from Royal Mail and Moving Technologies reveals that 14% of new home owners want to receive information from charities when they move home.

When moving home, many people remember to let their bank and utilities providers know, but fewer remember to tell the charities that they support, leaving them with incorrect data. Yet when asked, over 10% of home movers confirmed that they did want to continue to receive information from charities.

The Royal Mail says that the figures confirm the value of its online change of address service. This allows people to inform a range of charities of their new address details simply by registering them once. There is no charge for supporters to use the service. Royal Mail will then notify the organisation of the move allowing them to update supporter address details as well as target new donors.

Richard Roche, Head of Business Development at Royal Mail, said: “With approximately 6.3 million people moving home every year, it’s not always easy for charities to keep track of donors. Additionally, at this busy time it’s not easy either for people to inform charities of their move and retain a relationship with them. Royal Mail is now able to help both parties by informing charities when existing donors move address and for supporters, offering a one-stop-shop facility online, we can minimise the effort required to inform all organisation of new address details at this busy time.”

The system uses the iammoving.com service from Moving Technologies, and currently 79 charities are signed up to benefit from it.
