The major event was put together in under three weeks. Around 3,000 people volunteered at the stadium.

BBC Wales covered the event extensively, but it is interesting how within a month the original details of the DEC appeal have already become forgotten or misrepresented. On the “make a donation” page on the BBC Wales website, it claims that the DEC launched its appeal on the day of the tsunami disaster:

“The response from the British people to the Disaster Emergency Committee’s Tsunami Earthquake Appeal has been fantastic, with a huge amount of money raised since it was launched on Boxing Day.”

In fact, as UK Fundraising reported, the DEC launched its appeal on 28 December 2004, two days after the disaster.
