Digital TV provider BSkyB is offering 10 charities the opportunity to highlight their work for free by having a short film developed, produced and aired on The Community Channel, the not-for-profit TV channel.

This support is the first phase in BSkyB’s ‘Make It Big’ initiative, which will build a three-year partnership with one, or, a consortium of charities.

Any UK charitable organisation that works with young people aged 11-19 is invited to pitch an idea for a short film to showcase their work. The 10 charities chosen will have their ideas developed into three-minute films which will be premiered on The Community Channel during summer 2004. BSkyB says that this package is worth around £30-£50,000 each.

These donated films are in fact the first stage to BSkyB selecting one charity from the 10 as its partner for the next three years in a new charity partnership to support young people.

The partnership is part of Sky’s wider commitment to inspiring and supporting young people through its Reach For The Sky initiatives, which offer 11-19 year olds inspirational and fun ways of achieving their potential and focusing on their futures.

Ben Stimson, Head of Corporate Responsibility at BSkyB, said: “The charity partnership that we develop from the ten films will have a further value of at least £1 million pounds to the charity partner. However, we are looking for a charity that will generate innovative ideas such as employee fundraising, cause related marketing and further broadcast opportunities to ensure that the value actually far exceeds this. Ultimately, we are looking for a charity that will take full advantage of Sky’s expertise and appeal to young people.”
