Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity is receiving income from a Christmas e-card site sponsored by BUPA.

For the third year in a row BUPA is sponsoring merrychristmas.co.uk, the appropriately named Web site that lets you send Christmas e-cards in return for a donation to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

The service runs from the beginning of December until Christmas Day. You can send up to 50 animated Christmas e-cards for a pledge of £5.

“We’re very pleased to be supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity with such a fun initiative for the third year running. This year BUPA will donate an additional £1 to the charity for every £5 pledged. We’re also encouraging our staff to log on and in return we’ll donate an additional £5 for every member of staff who registers. One hundred percent of BUPA’s additional donations will go directly to the charity,” says Monica Owen, BUPA’s community affairs manager.

Dona Selby, executive director of Great Ormond Street Hospital, is hoping that this year’s campaign will generate 25,000 pledges.

Everyone who registers on the site will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win a unique Christmas card designed and signed by actress Amanda Holden. This card will also be made into an animated e-card on the Web site.

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity will receive 80% of each £5 registration fee. The remaining 20% will contribute to credit card clearance, hosting and bandwidth costs. One hundred per cent of BUPA’s additional donations will go directly to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, up to the total value of £10,000.

The Web site is operated by UK Digital Greeting Publishing group Ecelebrations(tm) which was launched by new media agency WAX in 2001.
