Welsh charities raise £9.5 million a year with Gift Aid

The number of Welsh charities using Gift Aid has almost doubled over the past year, raising around £9.5 million of additional income for the sector.

The Giving Campaign Wales reports that around 6,000 charities across Wales have now registered for Gift Aid and can claim an extra 28% from the Inland Revenue on donations from UK taxpayers.

Jonathan Brown, Director of the Campaign, said: “It’s incredible to think that almost 10 million pounds is being raised for
good causes across Wales, simply by getting donors to tick a box. However, there are still many charities who have yet to catch on. I’m hoping to see the number of charities using Gift Aid rise even further next year.

“In the build up to Christmas – when donations are twice as generous as during rest of the year – it is more important than ever to remind donors to consider using Gift Aid to make their gifts go even further.”

The Giving Campaign Wales is an independent initiative to boost charitable giving across the region: it is working to
encourage more charities to boost their fundraising through Gift Aid. It publishes information on Gift Aid and other tax-effective giving methods in both English and Welsh.
