Diabetes UK attracts employees from 23 companies with online payroll giving
Since launching its online payroll giving option in August 2002 Diabetes UK has attracted 23 donors from 23 companies.
Diabetes UK teamed up with Bmycharity.com to offer online payroll giving from their Web site, thereby enabling employees and members of company pension schemes to start giving tax-efficiently directly from their pay.
Fay Mayers at BT Group Plc Payroll department said: “Diabetes UK electronic form looks much easier to deal with. It has all the right details. It is less hassle: you only have to speak to the payee and inform him/her that the donation process can begin. I only wish that all donations were done like this through the Internet rather than all these confusing papers.”

Mark Stevens, an employee of BT Group Plc who has given using the system, said: “Diabetes UK electronic donor application is certainly easy to fill in. There is no hassle of phoning the charity, and asking for a form. It was less hassle for me, because I didn’t have to fill in all the details. I found it a straightforward form, easy to complete and I believe it is a very cost effective way for the charity.”
Leila West, who manages Payroll Giving at Diabetes UK, said: “We are delighted by the response so far. In the first five months 23 people from 23 different companies have signed up online and the feedback from employees and companies has been excellent.”
Jane Banks Head of Corporate Services at CAF, Diabetes UK’s payroll giving agency, said: “We all know that Payroll giving take up is best achieved by using a number of communication mediums. Now more than ever an opportunity to sign up online is imperative.”
Leila West from Diabetes UK will speak about online payroll giving at the Bmycharity conference on 13th January 2003.
