Howard Lake | 17 December 2002 | News

A group of MPs will be working to promote a culture of charitable giving in the UK.

The Giving Campaign has worked with MPs to set up the All Party Parliamentary Group on Charitable Giving. Launched on 5 December at a reception at the Houses of Parliament, the group aims to promote a stronger culture of charitable giving in the UK through highlighting the benefits of tax-effective giving.

More specifically, the group will be spearheading a promotional campaign to raise the profile of Payroll Giving among MPs and their staff, increase the participation rate in Parliament to 10%, and encourage MPs to promote Payroll Giving to employers in their constituencies.

Speaking at the event, Sue Doughty MP, Chair of the All Party Group, challenged MPs to get involved, saying: “By practising what we preach and signing up to Payroll Giving, we can talk to businesses about the benefits of Payroll Giving with a clear conscience.

“As Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Charitable Giving, I, along with Tim Boswell and Paul Goggins, the Vice Chairs, want the Houses of Parliament to become a beacon of good practice on Payroll Giving.”
