The Charity Commission’s latest quarterly report reports that there are now 186,279 registered charities in England and Wales.
The Charity Commission’s quarterly report for July-September 2002 reveals that 2,010 organisations applied for charitable status in that period, and 1,175 were accepted onto the Register of Charities.
It added that 944 charities were removed from the Register during this quarter, largely because they had ceased to exist.
The total number of charities on the Register at the end of September was 186,279.
