Wyevale Garden Centres raises £750,000 for Marie Curie

Wyevale Garden Centres has raised £750,000 for its charity partner Marie Curie more than 12 months ahead of schedule.
The partnership launched in 2014 and is part of the Wyevale Garden Centres Gardens for Good community initiative, which supports causes where gardens or gardening aim to benefit people. It had originally aimed to raise £750,000 by July 2017.
The money has been raised in a variety of ways including £274,000 raised through a 25p donation from entrance fees to children’s play areas in the garden centres, £90,000 from donating 10 per cent from certain products, as well as through participating in Marie Curie’s annual Great Daffodil Appeal, which this year raised £70,000.
This month, Wyevale Garden Centres is taking part in Marie Curie’s Blooming Great Tea Party between 20th-29th June. All centres with a restaurant or café will also be donating 20p from every hot drink sold over the weekend of 25th/26th June as part of the event with the aim of raising £10,000.
Stephen Murphy, chair of Wyevale Garden Centres, said:

“It is a fantastic achievement by our colleagues and customers. The money can help fund over 37,500 hours of Marie Curie Nurses who support people with a terminal illness and their families. We have set ourselves a new aim of reaching £1 million for the charity and I know that we can count on everyone at Wyevale Garden Centres to step up to the challenge and do everything possible to support this amazing cause.”
