Hoax chain e-mail appeal from child victim of September 11 attacks

Howard Lake | 14 July 2002 | News

A new chain e-mail has appeared from “Jasmine,” whose father was killed in the World Trade Center attacks last year and whose mother needs expensive surgery following her injuries.

“So the Red Cross said that.. for every time this email is fwd we Will get 10 cent for my mom’s surgery. So please have a heart and fwd this to everyone you know .”

Sound familiar? It’s all untrue. But you can be certain that the American Red Cross will start receiving annoying enquiries about this hoax. The sender explicitly reminds recipients to forward copies of replies to her e-mail address “SO THAT THE REDCROSS PEOPLE CAN COUNT THE FWDS.”
