Howard Lake | 14 February 2001 | News

In a letter to The Guardian today in response to the newspaper’s report that he was seeking compensation for his failed National Lottery licence bid, Sir Richard Branson says that he would give the money to charity. “I assure you, ” he wrote, “that if the government does insist that the money comes from the Good Cause Fund, then any costs I do retrieve I would either give to charity or… use it to set up a rival lottery with 100% of profits going to good causes.”
