From today national charities can screen their videos and appeal for funds via the first dedicated charity TV channel. The Community Channel claims to be the first “ethical shopping channel”, and is broadcast on Sky Digital (number 655) between 1pm and 4pm each afternoon, and 24 hours a day on the Internet.

The Channel is a not-for-profit venture and is wholly owned by the Media Trust, a charity that works in partnership with the media to meet the communication needs of the voluntary sector. The channel has been funded through cash and in-kind support from the Active Community Unit of the Home Office, the National Lottery Charities Board, the Department for International Development, and BskyB.
