Gates honours Helsinki library's IT access

Scandinavia, and Finland in particular, are often cited by technology commentators as key early indicators of consumer technology trends. One development has recently won a grant of $1 million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The Helsinki City Library has been awarded the foundation’s first annual Access to Learning Award for “its outstanding practices in increasing access for all people to computers and the Internet.”
