Shine! poll reports that lack of information stops people giving

US charity portal shine! was launched today with the release of a report which suggests that nearly 70 million Americans who want to be charitable do not donate their time or money to charities because they know too little about those organisations.

US charity portal shine! was launched today with the release of a report which suggests that nearly 70 million Americans who want to be charitable do not donate their time or money to charities because they know too little about those organisations.

The shine! poll, conducted by the research firm Roper Starch Worldwide, found that 84% of the 1,000 respondents are unsure whether charities would put their donations to good use, while 76% said they are hesitant to give because they do not know enough about an organisation’s goals.

Even more significantly the poll found that four in 10 respondents are likely to use the Internet to learn about non-profits. Indeed, 64% of Americans believe surfing the Web is an effective way to locate information about charities, while 61% percent said the Internet is a good tool to teach their children about giving, according to the poll.

Shine! announced also that it expects to expand its services to Canada, the UK, and Australia.
