Can non-profit sites attract paid advertising?

Howard Lake | 6 October 1999 | News

Each month the magazine Revolution publishes a list of the top 10 Web advertisers in the UK. The listing indicates the rate card value of the ads purchased, the advertiser, and the number of sites advertised on, with some specific examples.

Microsoft was perhaps not surprisingly the highest spender in June 1999, spending £141,000. What is more significant is the sites on which these advertisers place their ads. Of the dozens listed, all are for-profit commercial sites. There is only one .org site, and regrettably it is not a charity site, but Cricket news site www.cricket.org.

UK Fundraising will report when other charity .org sites start to attract significant paid advertising.
