New Santander Community Fund to give £250,000 to small charities in South West
The Santander Foundation has announced that small charities in the South West will be the first to benefit from a new fund which will be expanded nationwide.
The Santander Community Fund is providing £250,000 for local charities in the South West. Grants of up to £5,000 will be available for projects that help disadvantaged people in the area. The scheme is open to small local charities or local projects of national charities with funding available to cover salaries, equipment or materials.
Alison Varney, Divisional Managing Director, Santander said: “We’re keen to hear about those small, local charities in the South West where a grant of up to £5,000 could make a real difference to help people in the area.
“Through the Santander Foundation we make hundreds of donations every year to good causes around the UK for education and financial capability projects. This new fund has been set up to support a broader range of initiatives, along with a quick and simple application process specifically designed for small charities.”
Who can apply?
The ‘South West’ as defined by the Santander Foundation is larger than you might expect. The Fund is open to eligible charities in:
- Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Bristol, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Wiltshire
- Surrey, Sussex, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire
- Uxbridge
- Hereford, Gloucestershire, Worcester
- South and East Wales
Charities must be registered in the UK, and only one grant will be awarded per charity.

How to apply
Nominations can be made by Santander customers and staff, not by the charities themselves. Individuals can do so by visiting any Santander branch in the region and completing a Community Fund nomination form.
The closing date for nominations is 12 October and entries will be considered by a panel of staff drawn from across the region with grants awarded in November.
Not based in the South West?
The Santander Community Fund is being piloted in the South West before being launched nationally in 2013 with a £1 million fund.
This year the Foundation will donate a total of £4.5 million to charities around the UK.
