Repairs and maintenance provider Morrison has raised over £44,000 for housing charity Shelter in the first year of their corporate partnership.
The relationship, which began in October 2010, is Morrison’s first corporate charity partnership and involves over 3,000 employees from across England and Scotland who have taken part in a range of activities to support Shelter’s work.
Local offices have organised fundraising events including cabaret nights, football matches, curry cook-ups and coastal walks. Staff have also signed up for Shelter fundraising events including the charity’s Cake Time initiative and sporting events such as the Great Manchester Run and London Marathon.
Morrison have also supported Shelter’s charity shops with clothing and goods donations worth more than £3,500, and it has initiated a payroll giving scheme. The company is confident of reaching the fundraising target of £50,000 by the end of the first 12 months.
There have been other benefits to the charity. Senior managers from Morrison have been involved in policy roundtables held by Shelter and both organisations expect to work together on policy solutions to improve the situation of the hundreds of thousands of families across the country in desperate housing need.
Susan Stockwell, Director of CSR at Morrison’s, said: “Working in the social housing sector, we know how many people are facing housing problems and the importance of having support and advice readily available to help them. It was this connection between our organisations that led to Morrison choosing Shelter as its first charity partner.”
