Sightsavers chosen for FT's seasonal appeal 2011
Staff at the Financial Times have voted for international development charity Sightsavers to be the beneficiary of this year’s seasonal appeal to readers.
The appeal runs from 30 November to mid-January, and has raised £6 million in the past five years. Previous beneficiaries include Action Against Hunger and WaterAid.
This year’s appeal should enjoy considerable success. Standard Chartered, a corporate supporter of Sightsavers for the past 10 years, will match all donations to the appeal through its community investment programme, Seeing is Believing.
Lionel Barber, the FT’s editor, said: “It is a critical time to be generating support, as current economic difficulties mean the vulnerable populations Sightsavers works with face increasing hardship. We look forward to visiting some of the countries where the charity operates to bring their work to life through extensive editorial coverage, both in print and online.”
The FT has a combined paid print and digital circulation of 585,681, and a combined print and online average daily readership of 2.1 million people worldwide.
