Six charities to benefit from ITV's Text Santa 2012

ITV has announced the six charities that will benefit from its 2012 Text Santa campaign, which promotes donating by mobile phone. Age UK, Anthony Nolan, Carers UK, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Together for Short Lives, and Whizz-Kidz will share the income and raised profile of ITV’s second annual appeal which culminates in a live entertainment show on Friday 21 December.

In its first year, Text Santa chose nine beneficiary charities.

Viewers will be able to donate throughout the campaign via text using JustTextGiving by Vodafone.

Peter Fincham, ITV Director of Television said: “Text Santa provides an exciting platform for our biggest shows, brightest talent, dedicated staff and of course our fantastic viewers to come together and embrace the true spirit of . Having raised just over £4 million on its launch last year, I’ve no doubt that this year’s great causes and the entertainment line up we’re planning will make Text Santa 2012 an even bigger success.”

Ruth Owen, Chief Executive of Whizz-Kidz said of Text Santa: “As well as the vital fundraising which will help us give many more disabled young people their mobility this Christmas, it will raise awareness of the 70,000 children and young people in the UK who are still waiting for a wheelchair that fits their young lives. We believe every young disabled person has the right to a fun and active childhood, and with ITV’s help we can make this a reality for those children who are still waiting for a chance to develop their full potential. We hope the public really gets behind the appeal – and enjoys the entertainment.’

Text Santa will be supported by a major on-air campaign on ITV1, as well as across a range of programming in the ITV1, STV and UTV schedules.
