Python Terry Jones becomes patron of Philosophy in schools charity

Comedian Terry Jones, a founding member of the Monty Python team, has agreed to become a patron to educational charity The Philosophy Shop, which introduces primary and secondary school-age children to philosophy as a way to develop their reasoning skills.
Terry has in recent times become an advocate for The Philosophy Shop’s work in promoting philosophy in schools and has accepted the role of patron of the body due to his conviction that challenging and supporting the development of reasoning as early as possible should be a central feature of all schooling.
“It seems reasonable to teach children to reason; and unreasonable not to,” he explains.
Commenting on the appointment, Philosophy Shop Founder and Chief Operating Officer Emma Worley enthuses, “We’re absolutely thrilled to have Terry as a patron. As an historian he understands the value of ideas from the past, and as an ex-Python he is a hugely important figure in making Philosophy more accessible through sketches like The Philosophers’ Football Match, the Philosophers’ Drinking Song, the Argument Sketch and so on. Our charity shares a commitment to making Philosophy fun and accessible.
“Terry has been very generous with his time and energy and has helped enormously to increase the profile of the work we do. He is a huge asset and we are deeply honoured.”
