Marie Curie Cancer Care to use SMS to boost income and event participation

Howard Lake | 18 February 2011 | News

End of life care charity Marie Curie Cancer Care has been chosen as charity of the year by SMS delivery provider Txtlocal. The company will help the charity implement SMS marketing campaigns for its events and appeals. It will provide a mobile marketing programme, SMS infrastructure and expertise to the charity enabling it to send texts, receive donations and collect data.
The two organisations will focus on finding creative ways of using texts to communicate with supporters of Marie Curie Cancer Care’s flagship appeals and events, including the Great Daffodil Appeal, Blooming Great Tea Party and Walk Ten. As well as increasing income and event participation Marie Curie Cancer Care aims to use SMS to “enhance the experience of the charity’s supporters” and reach new audiences.
Amanda Johnson, Corporate Development Manager at Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “The Txtlocal team are full of ideas and enthusiasm and we look forward to building on our own knowledge to make our SMS campaigns some of the most creative and effective in the sector.”
Darren Daws Managing Director of Txtlocal said: “As part of our social mission we wanted to support a charity in a way that was meaningful and sustainable, and at the same time offers a real, value added experience for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Txtlocal teams. What’s more the marketing communications tools we have given them will only add to the supporter base”.
Txtlocal works with over 75,000 UK businesses and employs 11 staff. Its clients account for six million texts sent every month since the beginning of 2010.
