cloud computing, sensitive data and data protection
The latest edition of Information Age includes an article on cloud computing. It refers to a recent report by The European Union’s European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA). Apparently the report warns that complex data regulations mean that cloud computing services are unsuitable for government use (if they process sensitive data).
Charities need to have permission before processing sensitive data. However, I think that any that do process sensitive data must surely be wary of using cloud computing services, where data is hosted by another organisation.
For ./guidance on sensitive data and data protection generally, see the download available from the Researchers in Fundraising page of the Institute of Fundraising website. http://digbig.com/5bdfhh
