Tom Toumazis’ London Marathon team raise £75,000 for ChildLine

Howard Lake | 19 April 2010 | News

Endemol’s chief commercial officer Tom Toumazis announced today (19 April) that his 2010 London Marathon team has raised £75,000 for ChildLine.
Tom called on his media industry contacts to build a London Marathon team of 25 runners, including Cathy Payne, CEO at Endemol Worldwide Distribution, and Walt Disney International chairman Andy Bird.
Tom Toumazis said: “Running and training for a marathon really takes its toll on you, but every pound raised for ChildLine is worth the pain. I’ve been humbled by the response from colleagues and friends from across the media industry in supporting me to run the 2010 London Marathon.
“I can’t imagine how hard it must be for a child to speak out about abuse, but a call to ChildLine can be the first step in turning a child’s life around. ChildLine’s volunteer counsellors are there for any child, 24-hours a day, whatever their problems.”
Tom has supported ChildLine, a service of the NSPCC, since running his first London Marathon in aid of the helpline in 2004, repeating the feat in 2006 and 2008, and raising over £80,000 across the three marathons.
As well as running marathons for ChildLine, Tom formed the ChildLine20 Board in 2005 to mark 20 years of the UK’s free, 24-hour helpline for children. This group of influential volunteers have so far raised over £2.5m in cash, through events such as the annual ChildLine Ball and film premieres of Pirates of The Caribbean and Quantum of Solace, and donated over £1m in gifted media space to help promote the charity’s work.
Tom Toumazis continued: “Thank you to every single runner in the team for their commitment and everyone who has helped us to raise an amazing £75,000 for ChildLine. I’m looking forward to us all crossing the finish line safely, and handing over a great big cheque to ChildLine’s founder Esther Rantzen.”
