Law firm & clients raise over £1.5 million for CRUK, & other corporate fundraising news

The money was raised by people donating to Cancer Research UK instead of paying for Wills prepared by the firm. Read on for more news of this, plus other corporate fundraising partnerships.
Cancer Research UK & Blandy & Blandy
Thames Valley law firm Blandy & Blandy and its clients have helped to raise over £1.5 million for Cancer Research UK. Blandy & Blandy, which has offices in Reading and Henley-on-Thames, has been supporting CRUK’s Will writing scheme for two decades and in 2019 the firm was presented with a special Gold Award by the charity. Donations to the charity in lieu of paying for Wills prepared by Blandy & Blandy and legacies left by clients have contributed to this total. Gifts in Wills fund over one third of CRUK’s, with the charity funding 4,000 scientists, doctors, and nurses nationwide.

Irish Cancer Society & The Access Group
The Access Group has selected the Irish Cancer Society as the main Irish charity it will be focusing fundraising efforts on in 2022. Employees at its offices in Cork, Galway and Kilkenny chose the charity as its work is particularly close to the hearts of many of the Access team. They have been taking part in a range of fundraising activities for the cause, with the company set to match every euro raised by its employees. The money raised will allow the Irish Cancer Society to invest further in its services which help provide support for those diagnosed with cancer across Ireland. Its work includes the Support Line, a freephone call service that offers information and advice from experienced nurses; its hospital-based Daffodil Centres, and its Night Nursing service.
Kirkcudbright Sea Cadets & Castle MacLellan
Earlier this month, Castle MacLellan surprised Kirkcudbright-based Carlingwark House, Castle Douglas Nursery and Kirkcudbright Sea Cadets, by presenting them with a share of the company’s profits. As the pâté producer is owned by the Kavli Trust, all profits go to charity and other good causes in the UK and around the world. The good causes were nominated by employees, with each of the chosen charities submitting an application to receive funding late last year, detailing their request and how the money would be spent. Local community care home, Carlingwark House, received £50,000 to go towards equipment to help support residents living with dementia or sight and hearing impairments. Early Learning and Childcare service, Castle Douglas Nursery, was awarded £20,000 towards work on improving their outdoor area. Kirkcudbright Sea Cadets was awarded £35,000 towards a refurbishment on the unit building.
Action for Children & Arco
Arco has partnered with children and family charity Action for Children to fund two new roles supporting young people and disabled children living in the Glasgow area. The partnership has funded the recruitment of a Community Support Worker and a Trainer/Qualifications Assessor within the organisation. The additional Community Support Worker is based at the recently refurbished Silverton Community Hub, a centre specially designed to support children and young people with complex learning difficulties and a range of physical health needs. The Trainer/Qualifications Assessor is supporting Action for Children’s Youth Employability Project, a scheme that aims to help young people breakdown barriers to employment.
Barnardo’s and 5 Star Villa Holidays
Irish luxury villa specialist 5 Star Villa Holidays has teamed up with Barnardo’s to give a bereaved family a holiday in 2022. 5 Star Villa Holidays has been donating €10 per direct website booking to Barnardos’, to fulfil the holiday project. The holiday includes a 1 week stay in a luxurious villa in Alanya, Turkey, including flights from Belfast, and spending money, with any additional funds raised through the holiday project donated to Barnardos’ Bereavement Service.
Home-Start & Happy Beds
To help and support families in need this year, Happy Beds, a UK-based furniture retailer, has launched a charity partnership with Home-Start. One family helped is single father, Damien, 38, and his four children: Freya, aged 2, Daisy, 4, Akira 8 and Pagan, 12. The family were living in temporary accommodation in cramped conditions with little furniture. Yorkshire based, Happy Beds, worked with Home-Start to provide beds, mattresses and bedroom furniture to the family in need. Throughout 2022, Happy Beds is set to host various fundraising and volunteer events, as well as continuing to donate products to families who are in need.
Stand Up To Cancer & Scrap Car Comparison
Customers of Scrap Car Comparison helped to raise more than £16,000 for Stand Up To Cancer in just one month. The donation comes thanks to Scrap Car Comparison’s long-running ‘Donate a Car’ scheme where customers can choose to donate a portion, or all of the proceeds from their scrapped vehicle, to one of the company’s many charity partners. Chosen as ‘Charity of the Month’ for October 2021, customers donated a total of £16,238 to Stand Up To Cancer, in turn setting the record for the highest amount raised from the scheme in a single month during 2021. Throughout 2021, the scheme raised £170,966 that was distributed across other charities, which included The Children’s Trust, Dementia UK and The Blue Cross.
