Irish Red Cross raises €2 million for Haiti
The Irish Red Cross has reported that over €2 million has been raised to date in its Haiti Appeal.
The appeal was launched in mid-January in response to the catastrophic earthquake which struck Haiti, killing over 200,000 and displacing hundreds of thousands of people. Since then, the response from the Irish public, businesses, and the media has seen a strong flow of donations to the charity.
The Irish Red Cross commended the creativity of members of the public and businesses who have undertaken a variety of fundraising events and initiatives, encouraging people of all ages and from all walks of life to get involved in the appeal.
“We have seen schools, companies, community groups and many more individuals and groups really thinking about how they can use their own skills and ideas to fundraise on behalf of the Irish Red Cross and help the people of Haiti in the best way possible,” said Declan O’Sullivan, Acting Secretary General of the Irish Red Cross.
