National Trust staff appear in fundraising calendar

Howard Lake | 1 December 2008 | News

The National Trust has published its ‘Men at Work’ calendar featuring "thirteen of the Trust’s finest" to raise funds to purchase Seaton Delaval Hall in Northumberland.

The National Trust staff are all fully clothed, unlike many other charity fundraising calendars. It features faces of all ages from across the Trust, including a gardener, chef, woodsman, cider maker, master mason and farmer.

The Trust has raised £1 million so far, but needs to raise a further £2 million in order to secure the purchase.

Sue Herdman, Editor of The National Trust Magazine, who came up with the idea, said: "It would be a travesty if Seaton Delaval Hall, Sir John Vanbrugh’s great Baroque masterpiece, was sold privately and not saved for the nation. Everyone involved in the calendar project, including the designer, photographer and printer, has either offered their services for free – or at a substantial discount – for this terrific cause."

The calendar costs £7.95 and will be on sale from 4 December in forty of the National Trust’s shops and online.
