Get Connected hook up online for their annual fundraiser

Howard Lake | 21 February 2008 | News

Get Connected, the charity that runs a helpline for young people has found a unique way to boost funds for their annual fundraising auction held at the end of February. In conjunction with the new online auction site www.buyoncegivetwice.co.uk they will be auctioning their speciality lots – opening the bidding one week before the event.
Get Connected provides a free and confidential helpline that gives young people and those in difficult situations, the support and information they need to decide what to do. Their annual auction will be held at Frankie’s in Knightsbridge on the 28th February, with the kind permission of Marco Pierre-White. Over 150 guests are expected to attend the evening and will be bidding for spectacular lots such as an X Factor Finale Package for four people, attending a sound check, going backstage and meeting judges and contestants, followed by dinner at Gordon Ramsay’s Boxwood Cafe. Alternatively, guests can bid for the VIP Suite at the O2 arena for fifteen people at the now sold out Eagles Concert or take a week’s holiday at a luxury villa in Antigua.
‘The auction has gone from strength to strength with the support of The Carphone Warehouse, raising £186,000 last year. With Buy Once Give Twice contributing their services, this year promises to be the best ever. The money raised will enable us to reach thousands more young people in 2008’ says Get Connected’s Chief Executive, Emma Insley.
BuyOnceGiveTwice helps organisations by providing an online service for their charity auctions to increase their audience and raise more funds from their events. There is also the facility to recycle luxury auction lots that have not been redeemed or sold. There is no cost to the charity.

Notes to Editors:
BuyOnceGiveTwice
• BuyOnceGiveTwice is the brainchild of Mia Woodford and Emma Leschallas, who spotted the potential of wasted lots after raising £500,000 at a single auction at the Cura Ball.
• When a charity holds an auction, its supporters pay thousands of pounds for a luxurious and often unique prize. However, frequently the supporter is busy and does not have time to redeem their prize.
• Through BuyOnceGiveTwice, the prize is recycled making more money for charity.
• BuyOnceGiveTwice uses the remaining 10% of the monies received from sales to
cover the costs of running the site.
• There is no cost to the charity to auction or re-auction lots.
• The funds received by the charity from the auctions are unrestricted.
GetConnected
• Get Connected finds help for approximately 13,000 young people each year, via phone, email and webchat
