5th February 2007 : — To launch CAKE BREAK 2007, its annual national fundraising baking event, the Multiple Sclerosis Society has carried out national research to find out just how hot it is in the kitchen in terms of our baking skills. The surprise result is that almost half our men appear to be secret regular bakers, with 11 percent having baked in the past month! So ladies, who’s hiding their pinny in your cupboard?

It comes as no surprise that women still are ahead of men, with 77 percent having baked in the past six months, but could the rise of the male celebrity chef be creating a revolution in the kitchen? With 19 cooking or baking related programmes on terrestrial TV every week, from daytime viewing to primetime, and over 48,000 cookery books available on Amazon in the UK, it seems that baking is moving from past-time to national phenomenon. Not to mention the awakening of the Domestic Goddess.

On 1st June 2007 the Multiple Sclerosis Society will be holding its seventh annual baking event, CAKE BREAK. Bake a cake (or buy one if you prefer!) and host your own CAKE BREAK party, at home, at work, in the gym, at school, wherever Invite your friends, families, colleagues, school friends, sports team over (ask them to bake a cake too!), enjoy tasting each others’ recipes and know you’re raising crucial money to help the hundreds and thousands of people across the UK affected by MS.

And to add a bit of excitement to the proceedings, we want you to log on to the MS Society’s website at the end of your CAKE BREAK and judge – Was the best tasting cake you tried today baked by a) a man, b) a woman, or c) a supermarket? Let’s see just how good these men are in their pinnies.

So, we call on all you Gods and Goddesses of the kitchen (and those still with your baking L-plates on!) to put your skills to the test for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. A suggested donation of £1 per slice of cake eaten at every CAKE BREAK party across the nation will go a long way to raising the ‘hundreds and thousands’ we need to find a cure to this devastating disease.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab your apron, and call the MS hotline on 0870 760 5606 or register online www.mssociety.org.uk/cakebreak, for your free CAKE BREAK pack, including invitations, posters and all the info you need to host your own party.
