Newsletter signup app on Facebook raises funds for Children in Need

Howard Lake | 12 November 2007 | News

Personal finance expert Martin Lewis has developed an application for Facebook users to use which includes the incentive of a 50p donation to BBC Children in Need for every email newsletter subscriber it generates.

Over 1.5 million people already receive the weekly email newsletter full of tips about saving money. With the Facebook app, that number should rise considerably.

Martin Lewis will donate 50p for each new subscriber generated by the links on people’s Facebook profiles.

There is another incentive to add the application: each time someone sign’s up from an individual’s Facebook profile, that individual’s ‘Pudsey Ranking’ will improve, and a mini-Pudsey is added to their wall. The person with the highest Pudsey Ranking when the application closes on Sunday night will be sent a bottle of champagne.

The app can only be used before the Children in Need telethon on 16 November.

[Update 22/11/2007: the app generated £8,203 for BBC Children in Need].
