PDSA acknowledges its volunteer managers

Veterinary charity PDSA today thanked its professional volunteer managers to mark the ninth International Volunteer Manager Appreciation Day. Together the charity’s managers look after the 4,800 people who lend a ‘paw’ to the organisation.
PDSA estimates that its volunteer staff save the organisation £8.5 million every year. Without PDSA managers, however, these savings and the income many of volunteers themselves generate would not be possible.
PDSA Head of Volunteering, Janet Compton, said: “PDSA would like to thank all of its managers for their hard work and dedication in managing volunteers. We are extremely grateful to our committed volunteers across the UK, and the ./guidance that our professional managers provide to them. The partnership between staff and volunteers ensures our vets and nurses can help thousands of sick and injured pets every day.

PDSA is the first UK-wide organisation to be awarded the Investing in Volunteers (IiV) quality standard, after its volunteer management policies and practices passed a vigorous assessment programme, undertaken by Volunteering England.
International Volunteer Manager Appreciation Day was founded in 1999 and was introduced in order to bring recognition to individual managers of volunteer resources and to promote a greater awareness of the role that volunteer managers play.
