Help for Heroes

Today sees the launch of a new charity called Help for Heroes (H4H), in support of those in the Armed Forces who are wounded in action.

The charity has been set up by cartoonist Bryn Parry – himself a former soldier – and his wife Emma. Following discussions with General Sir Richard Dannatt, the charity’s main work will be to support the Tri-Service Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court.

The charity’s first planned fund-raising event is scheduled to take place in May 2008. The Big Battlefield Bike Ride (BBBR) will involve some 300 bicycle riders on a 320 mile ride through First and Second World War battlefields in France, returning to Britain to finish at the Cenotaph. The bike ride symbolically links the service personnel of our past with their modern brothers in arms. The BBBR hope to raise more than £500,000 towards H4H’s initial fund-raising target. The BBBR is just one of many fund-raising ventures planned.

H4H enjoys the support of other service charities, particularly the Army Benevolent Fund.
