Comic Relief offers downloadable print and online ads

Comic Relief is once again asking print and online publishers for free publicity in the run up to Red Nose Day on 16 March. It is offering banner ads and colour print ads for download from its website.

Comic Relief is offering four different print adverts, downloadable in Adobe Acrobat format (PDF), and five web banner ads, all in Flash format.

Unlike previous campaigns, the banner ads are available in only one format and size – 468 x 60 pixels, the standard banner ad.

As always, however, they are very easy to use, as Comic Relief offers a simple snippet of HTML to cut and paste.

Comic Relief was one of the first charities to offer free banners and buttons to supporters to generate free publicity and traffic for their website. Their “Turn the Web Red” campaigns of 1997 and 1999 were particularly successful, generating tens of thousands of incoming links to their site.

Even now, many charities do not offer similar free downloads from their websites. Given the rise of ‘widgets’ and other badges to adorn blogs and websites and engage other supporters, this is a considerable oversight.

The four print adverts promote the event and the fundraising DVD.
