Art on a Postcard Secret Auction raises £74k for The Hepatitis C Trust
Postcards by artists including Damien Hirst, Grayson Perry, Maggie Hambling, Oliver Jeffers, Peter Blake, Harland Miller, and Gilbert & George have helped raise £74,000 for The Hepatitis C Trust.
The Art on a Postcard Secret Auction took place last month, hosted by The Auction Room at Bloomsbury House, with more than 400 postcards by famous artists as well as Royal Academicians such as Ken Howard RA, Mick Rooney RA, John Wragg RA, Rebecca Salter RA, and Steven Farthing RA, and emerging talent.
All the works were offered without attribution and artists’ names remained anonymous until the end of the auction. A postcard by Grayson Perry, Lot 279 (main image), was the winning lot, raising £4,000, with prints available online.
Gemma Peppé, director, Art on A Postcard, said:
“At the start of this project in 2014, we were conscious to create something that was truly inclusive and engaging but that also was true to our current economic and political landscape. Postcard sized artwork does just that. Small works of art are a symbol of the austerity we have been living through, economical for our artists to make and our audience to buy, perfectly sized to fit easily onto the wall of a London apartment, and if none of the above, great, collectible, artworks in their own merit.”
