Top 30 social CEOs of 2016 revealed

The top 30 charity CEOs on social media 2016 have been announced with an overall winner chosen for the first time.
Ruth Ibeguna, CEO of RECLAIM, a Manchester based youth leadership charity, took first place, with other winners including Paul Breckell of Action on Hearing Loss, Dalton Leong from The Children’s Trust and Jan Tregelles from Mencap.
This year, three individual awards were also made alongside the top 30 to recognise the social media presences of senior leaders and up and coming voluntary sector talent. These were won by Tom Baker of BOND (Best Senior Leader), Maya Dibley of Girlguiding (Best Trustee) and Catherine Deakin of Tommy’s (Rising Star).
Now in their fourth year, the awards were founded by Zoe Amar from Zoe Amar Communications and Matt Collins from Platypus Digital, with the awards night hosted by JustGiving on 17th November.
The awards received 169 nominations in total. The panel of judges was chaired by Simon Blake, CEO of the NUS, and comprised Peter Wanless, CEO of the NSPCC, Karl Wilding, director of public policy and volunteering, NCVO, Caron Bradshaw, CEO of CFG, Rohan Hewivasenti, group director of resources at the RNIB, Beth Kanter, US based social media expert, and Lucy Caldicott, charity leadership and governance expert.
Zoe Amar said:

“This year’s winners show how charity leaders have grown in confidence in how they are using social media. Our judges were very impressed by the way in which they were using social to manage stakeholders, show thought leadership and lead from the front. We’re living in uncertain times and resources are tight but the work these charity leaders are pioneering online should be a source of hope to the voluntary sector.”

Amar and Collins have also released a social media briefing to help charity CEOs use it more effectively.
