Apps in action, development, or just launched: here are three that have caught our eye this week that help either specific causes, or put the control in the fundraiser’s hand to launch their own campaigns.

1) Palringo

UK-based social platform Palringo, which lets users play multiplayer games in a group chat situation, has just released new Superhero gaming bot Hero Squad for its annual campaign, which launched this month – this year Heroes Against Hunger – and from which it will donate 50 per cent of the proceeds between its two charity partners: Action Against Hunger and Islamic Relief Worldwide. Over the past three years, Palringo has raised over $750,000 for charity, and is aiming to increase this to $1m through the new release.

2) Spotfund

A mobile iOS micro-donation app that features a newsfeed of causes and current events that users can donate $1, $2 or $3 to by dropping a virtual token on that story, before sharing their action on Facebook or Twitter with the *spottag (similar to a hashtag but replacing the # with an asterisk), to prompt others on their social networks to do the same. Currently US-focused, the app launched this month with the aim of a wider roll out in the future.

3) CharitApp

Due to launch on 1st September, free app CharitApp is designed to let people to raise money for themselves and/or for their communities, as well as for organisations and NGOs to raise money for their causes and programmes. The app will place limits on how much people, groups, and organisations can raise, and donors will receive a detailed description of how their money will be used.
