eBay reduces minimum donation to charities

Howard Lake | 20 September 2006 | News

eBay has announced changes to its ‘eBay for Charity’ programme that allows sellers to donate between 10 and 100 per cent of the proceeds form a sale to charity.

To date, sellers have been asked to give a minimum of £5 if their listing sells and this has now been reduced to £2 to include more sellers with smaller items for sale. The minimum MissionFish deduction will be reduced to 40p for a £2 donation and Mission Fish will no longer take any deductions from the Gift Aid it collects for charities from donations.

eBay will continue to donate the same percentage of final value fees as the seller donates of their sale price.

The company said that more than 60 per cent of all seller donations are currently under £10 and MissionFish will deduct significantly less for smaller donations, and slightly more from larger gifts. So far more than 1,000 charities have signed up to benefit from donations and are also able to sell their own items. There is no minimum donation or MissionFish deductions for charities selling items themselves.

Changes take effect from 28 September and eBay said it would be announcing major charity campaigns in the near future for the eBay community to get involved in.
