Shaun the Sheep app one of 2015’s best
Charity app Shaun in the City: Sheep Spotter’ has been voted one of Google’s best Android apps of 2015.
The app, developed by The Grand Appeal and Aardman, was designed to accompany The Grand Appeal’s London and Bristol ‘Shaun in the City’ trails, which saw 50 designs placed around London from 28 March – 25 May 2015, followed by 70 more sculptures installed all over Bristol during the summer (6 July – 31 August 2015).
The app helped Shaun fans track down all 120 sculptures, as well as offering interactive trail statistics and exclusive games and challenges. It went straight to the top of the Apple App Store chart within 24 hours of launching, and was downloaded more than 80,000 times, with proceeds from every £1.49 download going to The Grand Appeal.
Lauren Howard, marketing manager, The Grand Appeal, said:
“The app was a huge hit with Shaun fans all over the country and overseas, with sculptures discovered more than 2 million times with the app. Every single purchase helped to raise even more vital funds for critically ill children at Bristol Children’s Hospital and children’s hospitals across the UK, and we’d like to thank everyone who downloaded it for their support.”
The sculptures themselves raised more than £1 million for The Grand Appeal at auction in October. The funds raised by the 70 Bristol sculptures went to The Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity, while the funds raised by the 50 London sculptures were in aid of Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Charity, which supports children in hospitals across the UK.
