Survey finds most charities support lifetime legacies in the UK
The Institute of Fundraising has announced the results of a web survey, run in partnership with the Institute for Philanthropy, to establish the views of fundraising organisations about the potential introduction of lifetime legacies in the UK.
Ninety seven percent of respondents thought there would be benefits from the introduction of lifetime legacies in the UK and seventy six percent believe that their organisation could benefit from this new form of giving.
Respondents identified a broad range of benefits from introducing lifetime legacies in the UK, including:

The opportunity to establish a long-term relationship with a donor (90%)
Increase in donations levels (79%)
Opportunity for donors to give from their assets as well as disposable income (79%)
Opportunity to attract more wealthy donors (71%)
Opportunity to attract new donors (70%)
Security that a gift will come to my organisation (68%)
Promote a concept of planned giving in the UK (60%)
Increase in number of donations (57%)
Opportunity to establish a relationship with donors’ networks (53%)
The survey forms part of the work of the Lifetime Legacies Coalition, which is campaigning for tax changes so that Lifetime Legacies can be introduced in the UK.

The use of lifetime legacies in the US; looking at how donors and charities currently use this donation method
The implications of lifetime legacies on the financial services and advisory profession in the UK; exploring the mechanics of implementing these tax-effective, donation vehicles in the UK.
