Building society employees take over Mind Cymru shops in charity challenge
Employees at Principality Building Society have applied their selling skills in three of the charity shops of mental health charity Mind Cymru in a challenge to see who could raise the most.
The volunteers from Wales’ largest building society took over Mind shops in Monmouth, Newport and Llandudno, with the aim of raising as much as possible for Mind Cymru, Principality’s Charity of the Year.
The winning team were the volunteers at the Llandudno shop, which managed to collect the most donations and sell the most items in the Mind Retail Challenge Day. In total £637 was raised by the takeover.
As well as raising funds for the charity, the initiative also helped Principality staff better understand how charity shops operate.
Charity of the year
Every year Principality raises money for a its Charity of the Year. Last year it raised a record total of over £86,000 for MS Society Cymru.
The charity is nominated by a member of staff at the Society and then shortlisted among five others, before being voted on by staff at Principality’s Cardiff-based head office, 53 branches and 18 agencies across Wales and the borders.
Mind Cymru Interim Director Janet Pardue-Wood said:
“Events like the Mind Retail Challenge are great fun and raise awareness of mental health as well as money that will help us to continue providing vital services like our Infoline and support for the 20 local Minds across Wales, to make sure that no one has to face a mental health problem alone.”
