Howard Lake | 14 July 2015 | News

Entries to the second annual Kent Charity Awards are now open. The awards are designed to showcase the hard work, perseverance and impact of charities in Kent, many of them small and local.
This year the awards feature two new categories – the Volunteer of the Year and the Trustee of the Year. These awards recognise the difficulties faced by charities in raising funds and also the valuable contributions made by trustees.
Other categories are:
• Care Charity of the Year
• Animal Charity of the Year
• Children’s Charity of the Year
• Voluntary Organisation of the Year
• Community & Environment Charity of the Year
If you are not sure what category your organisation falls under please tick the box marked ‘Other’ when submitting your entry via the Kent Charity Awards website.
The winners of the 2015 Kent Charity Awards were announced in front of over 220 guests at a ceremony at The Corn Exchange in Rochester. The overall winner was Kent Search and Rescue. Their fundraising manager Ed Franklin said:
“For everyone at Kent Search & Rescue it was a great achievement to win but, more importantly, it recognises the efforts of our volunteers to help vulnerable people in their hour of need. Respect for the privacy of the missing person means that our work often remains unnoticed by the general public, but this award will certainly help to raise our profile, generate vital funding and attract new volunteers”.
The Kent Charity Awards are sponsored by The KM Media Group, Furley Page, Kent County Council, Kreston Reeves, Medway Council, MidKent College, Diggerland, Kent Reliance and Southeastern.
The awards are free to enter and entries will be profiled in the KM Media Group newspapers across the whole region.
The deadline for entries is 23 October 2015. The winners will be announced in March 2016.
