The first e-novel to be published by a charity has been launched by blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan.
Written by comedian Dominic Holland, Open Links tells the story of a long-in-the-tooth golfer on the last day of the British Open at Muirfield. He wrote it for the charity after being “deeply moved” by families of cancer sufferers.
Open LinksAvailable for £3.99 from Amazon, all the profits from sales of the e-novel – which takes about four to five hours to read – will go to the charity.
“This is exciting and unchartered territory for Anthony Nolan as well as within the wider fundraising and publishing landscape,” said Richard Davidson, Director of Communications at Anthony Nolan. “We are thrilled to be able to give people the unique opportunity to enjoy a highly entertaining reading experience from a renowned author, with the knowledge that all profits will help save lives.”
Holland was inspired to donate the book to the charity after hosting the Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards earlier this year. The charity said he was “deeply moved by some of the people he spoke to ton the evening…and was visibly affected by the stories he heard.”
Holland said: “Meeting families who are coping with such difficult circumstances was a humbling experience and has reaffirmed to me exactly why donating the proceeds of Open Links to Anthony Nolan is the right thing to do.”

“Ricky Randal’s having the worst morning of his life. And there are still eighteen holes to go.
“It’s the final day of the British Open, and storm clouds are gathering over Muirfield. Fighting his way into the elite world of millionaire golfers, frenzied journalists, and stuffy officials, a long-in-the-tooth journeyman player finds himself without a caddie, without a pair of trousers – and without a chance.
“The odds are against him. The course is fighting him. And he’s got nobody to back him up apart from the world’s most unlikely toilet attendant, a sports reporter hoping for an underdog story, and one young fan in desperate need of a miracle.
“Open Links is a life-affirming story of hope, family and endeavour; a fairy-tale that will resonate with everyone, but particularly those of us who still dare to dream.”
