Nominations for Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2014 close this month

Do you know of community groups and volunteers who have made a difference to their local area? The Cabinet Office is encouraging the public to nominate such organisations and people for The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service for 2014.
These annual awards were created in 2002 to mark the occasion of The Queen's Golden Jubilee and to act as a legacy of that event. It is designed to have an equivalent status for voluntary groups as the MBE has for individuals.
Nick Hurd, Minister for Civil Society said: "I would urge members of the public who have seen the genuine difference volunteers have made to the lives of others, or witnessed the benefit of their local community groups who are supported year round by hard-working volunteers, to consider recognising this dedication and nominating their local organisation for a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service by 30th September."

Winners will receive a certificate signed by The Queen and an exclusive commemorative crystal, presented by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenants in their counties at special ceremonies arranged by the Lieutenancy offices and in the countries of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. The Lieutenant Governors of the Islands of Jersey and Guernsey will also make individual presentations.
Representatives from the group may also be invited to attend a royal garden party.
