Children in Need offer Tiny Terry desktop buddy

BBC Children in Need are offering supporters a pop-up “Tiny Terry” (Wogan, of course) to help keep them up to date with this year’s appeal. The free download of a pixellated Wogan generates an animated Terry Wogan on users’ desktops, providing they are using Windows PCs.
The pop-up Tiny Terry will generate a small pop-up window of the latest news of the BBC Children in Need Appeal. In addition, users can make the animation dance, forward it to a friend. They can also review past messages, all of which contain a prominent call to donate, and click through to the Children in Need website, or to the online donation page.
Unlike the real Mr Wogan, you can make Tiny Terry disappear in an instant, whether permanently or in snooze mood, ready to appear in 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours.
When in snooze mode, an icon of the charity’s mascot Pudsey Bear sits in the system tray, ready to be double-clicked.
Comic Relief used a desktop buddy earlier this year in the form of The Nose. Indeed, both charities have used the same firm to create their buddy, Skinkers.com.
Desktop buddies offer an alternative method of reaching supporters and keeping them up to date. Together with email newsletters, blogs and RSS feeds, they can help drive traffic and generate responses on a regular basis.
