Haranguing on the telephone

Howard Lake | 10 October 1998 | News

Some people don’t like receiving fundraising appeals via telephone. Some people object to any sales message being delivered in the privacy of their own home. And some of these people are sharing their dislike in a rather practical way. They have set up The Anti Telemarketer’s Source , a Web site dedicated to spreading best practice in “telemarketer tormenting techniques”. You can even play a game that awards points for every minute that you keep a telemarketer on the ‘phone, asking them inane questions.
With any luck your donors won’t come across the site, but it might just be sensible to bone up on what your telemarketers could be faced with on this evening’s call session.
