Fundraising magazine searches for the 50 Most Influential in Fundraising

Fundraising magazine has opened its annual poll to find the 50 people most influential in fundraising in the UK.

The six-week poll asks its readers who has influenced or inspired them the most in their fundraising. The top position has in the past been accorded to Mark Astarita, Director of Fundraising at the British Red Cross, Ken Burnett (Clayton Burnett), and Joe Saxton (nfpSynergy). It was won, appropriately enough, in 2009 by The Donor.

The poll, now in its 11th year, often generates debate about various issues such as the proportion of women to men nominations, the seemliness of such a poll in the charity sector (hence the win for The Donor), the rumours of attempts to rig the voting, the dominance of agencies and consultants over charity staff, and suggestions that it is often a list of familiar, ‘obvious’ names.
